New Logo from a design contest!

You may have noticed we got a new logo! We’re super excited about it as it translates into a makers mark much better than the old one.

We used “DesignCrowd.com” for the contest. If you’re not familiar with the process you put up prize money (about $350) and designers from around the world look at what you want and submit designs. Some you eliminate, others you ask for revisions, then you select a winner. They even have an option where you don’t accept any winners. This was my first time using this particular company and I’m pleased with the results, but there were a few things about them that I wasn’t thrilled with.

First off, there were way too many e-mails. Every time someone commented or submitted a design I got an individual e-mail. That meant over 300 e-mails total – so I just deleted all of them without reading them. Not too smart on their end. Secondly, I created a poll so friends could vote on the designs they liked and give input. It was not made clear that people would have to create an account with the company (and get signed up for their e-mails) in order to vote. I didn’t appreciate that.

I have had logos designed from contests in the past for our Fun Fotos To Go and Game Shows To Go companies and have always had results that I was pleased with. So if you’re looking for a new logo and want to see what a crowd can do – I recommend giving a logo contest a shot. It’s relatively inexpensive and I’ve personally been quite pleased with the results.
